Thyge Andersen Enevoldsen

A Respected Man

"Sir - I feel it incumbent upon me to express in true words, simple though they may be, how deeply sorry I was to learn of the tragic death of Mr Enevoldson, Skipper of the trawler Lord Deramore. Skipper Enevoldson was beloved by all who knew him, for his exceptional quality of modesty, blended with human sympathy and courage. A man who despised publicity, he was one of Hull's most competent skippers.
Skipper Enevoldson died as he would have wished, on the sea that he so dearly loved, and in his words of good wishes for his son's safety he revealed his true character of unselfishness at the very last".

Record of Death or Injury
About 8pm 30/4/97. William Jefferson, 2nd engineer. Whilst he was repairing the winch, the fly wheel caught his head and injured his scalp & face. The deck hand started the winch without knowing that Jefferson was there.

Official Log
In consequence of the injury referred to on page 11 William Jefferson was taken ashore in Iceland the same night and was admitted into the Hospital at Reykjavik for treatment. We returned for him on the following Tuesday the 4th, but owing to the heavy weather were unable to communicate with the shore. In consequence we returned to Hull without him. It being previously agreed with the British Consul that if Jefferson did not accompany us he should be sent home by the mail steamer.

The Cuckoo was launched 30/01/1896 and requisitioned from the Yorkshire Steam Fishing Co. of Hull in 1914 as a minesweeper and returned to commercial use in 1919. At some point in her RN service she was renamed Nightjar. This info from the book "Cook, Welton & Gemmell - Shipbuilders of Hull & Beverley".
